Why don’t you have a boyfriend?

You know what question I really hate answering? “So, why don't you have a boyfriend?” How am I supposed to answer that? This is not some conscious decision I am making [even though Joshua Harris tried REALLY hard when I was in jr. high to convince me it should be]. I have not had 15 great offers in the past month that I have turned down because I really want the last spot in that convent. I just don't know what people expect you to say when they ask you this.
“Why don’t YOU?” (said with a sassy attitude)
“Cause I’m in love with you.”
“I do…how did you not know that?”
“I’m dating Jesus.”
“I’m pretty sure eHarmony will find me one any day now.”
“Cause boys smell.”
“My dad shot the last one.”
“Haven’t found anyone that’s been able to handle me yet.”

…so, why don’t some of YOU have a boyfriend or girlfriend?

As inappropriate as that question is, I'm afraid it doesn't get better. Once you get a significant other, that question is replaced by "when are you getting married?" When you get married, that question becomes "When are you having kids?" (I'm sure there's another one that comes once you have kids, but I haven't reached that point yet.)

NONE of these questions are appropriate! People should just mind their own business!

A) Women scare me
B) John Eldgridge called and told me I'm not a "real man" yet. (He said something about being dropped off in the middle of the Rockies and making it out alive. I signed up for January 15th.)

the question i often ask is "how are my girlfriends still single??" i mean these are brilliant, gorgeous, hilarious women with strong values, a good family.

why the heck haven't they all been snatched up by now?

yeah... I have girlfriends like that too... "brilliant, gorgeous, hilarious, strong values, good family," why don't they have boyfriends??- heck, why DON'T I have a boyfriend?? ...maybe if I was more humble! I know! I'll write a book on humbleness and get famous once I've acheived it, that's sure to score points with the men! Gosh, I'm so smart. ;)

As a guy who married later (38) I heard this question many times as well. One night while feeling rather fiesty I replied "maybe I'm a lowlife pondsucking bacteria ridden fleabag, would that make sense? If not, then your question is completely rude, insulting and patronizing."

Come to think of it, not sure if I have really hung out with that person since!! :))
