THIS is why i still go to church

compliment/random comment of the day. after the church service sunday the lady behind me taps me on the shoulder and says:

"excuse me, but your hair looks like a pantene pro-v commercial. i mean, it's so shiny. i looked around at other girls in here and none of them look like yours."

i don't even USE pantene pro-v. and i hadn't even washed my hair that day, imagine if i had!! actually, best i hadn't - i would have totally distracted her from the LORD.

Girl One: Do they make chastity belts that vibrate?

Girl Two: Do they even make chastity belts?

March madness impeeds judgement

This conversation overheard recently. Sadly, I am not sure whether they were actually talking about teams or boys, a dangerous thing to blend...

He's no Big Red, of course, but I still have an affinity for giant, shaggy, shapeless blobs (which, incidentally, gives me great taste in mascots, but a questionable dating history). And their primary mascot is a fellow named D'Artagnan, and he has a mustache.

Nine words women use

This was a forward passed on to me...

(1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

(2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

(3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.

(4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!

(5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)

(6) That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome' . That will bring on a 'whatever').

(8) Whatever: Is a woman's way of saying F-- YOU!

(9) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?' For the woman's response refer to # 3.

Sis??

OK, I have been told that this belief is just me and that I am being melodramatic – but I am going to share it anyway…

I am not a fan of the word “sis” or “sister” when being referred to. I don’t care if you are a Christian, really friendly, harmless or think you are too old for me – DON’T call me “sis” unless you are COMPLETELY sure there is no way you would ever want to pursue something romantically with me. Because that word is a big red flag that you have no interest in me AT ALL and never will. Sister? Really? It is kind of like a subtle way of letting me know that the thought of being with me is kind of comparable to incest for you.

I’ll admit, I am a bit overreacting – but I really don’t like that word and if a guy calls me “sister” I pretty much write him off and assume he is not interested in me at all. Because if nothing else, I think he is too evangelical for me.

Anyone else? Just me?

My Facebook Status

There is something interesting about what happens when you update a facebook status. I can say something like "Yeti is salsa dancing” and no one says anything, but when just a couple weeks ago I came out with "Yeti is having a hard time believing in love” everyone felt like they needed to chime in.

Now, I will be the first to admit that I hate it when people put their ish up on facebook. The whole world does not need to hear the crap going on in your life in a status update – but this was different [trust me]. I can, however, understand how people so easily misinterpreted what I was saying.

Here are a couple responses I got:
“Hang in there sweetie”
“You also, huh?”
“You must believe in love!”
“I’m with you on that one”
“Hang in there.”
“Woah, that is an intense status message. Not sure what’s going on but I sure hope things are ok!”
“He’s out there somewhere, just be patient.”
“Be patient – all in good time. When it’s right, it’s right.”
“Although being patient stinks…it really is worth waiting for the guy that will make the whole wait worth it.”
“Hard time believing in it? Well...it sounds like at least you know it exists!! When in doubt...I always just say ‘God, you're runnin the show, not me.’ You know whatever he has going on for you- is for a reason!!”
“Love exists because GOD IS LOVE!”

I also got several private messages encouraging me.

Let me be honest, my discouragement was not about me “oh poor me, I’m single,” it was more about the way I ache with those around me. I have lots of friends that are struggling right now: being cheated on, feeling trapped, walked out on by a spouse, dishonesty, etc.

It is just difficult for me to believe in love when more and more everyday I think what my parents have is one in a trillion.

BUT mainly the point of this is be careful when choosing a facebook status message…cause people will just start assuming things and then advising you accordingly.

Marketing Position Open??

I just can't help but think Baja Fresh needs to get a new web designer or marketing campaign manager, cause this web page is not good. It doesn't really sound like they are selling food. But keep reading if you want to know How to Get Fresh...

The Lady Kill

I have a friend [ok…I may or may not have had a big crush on him in the past] that hits me with these phrases all the time. Hey Lady! You’re such a special lady! or Hey Pretty Lady!

What’s with the word lady? I think it is most typically used when referring to ones aunt or grandmother. It is never a good sign when you get “lady-ed” by someone. Unless it is someone’s mother or grandmother telling their son you are a nice lady they should ask out – then, for some reason, the word is taken as a compliment.

One of my roommates tried to argue this with me. She said she thought it COULD be a term of endearment – I think she was just being a good [or bad] roommate allowing me to live in the illusion of my crush.

So what should you call a female in the 20-30 range?
If lady makes us feel old and undesirable.
Chick makes us feel like an animal or ditzy piece of eye candy.
Babe makes us feel like a sidekick or someone who just looks good on your arm.
Girl makes us feel seven years old [except I think I am OK with girl]
Miss makes us feel too polite or from colonial times.
Ms makes us feel pathetic and single.
Mrs just rubs in the fact that we aren’t [unless of course you are then…just ignore this one]
Mamn makes us feel old.
Woman seems to be the ticket. But somehow it feels funny to say. “I met a nice woman.”

So, women who read this blog, what do you think?

The Gift of Technology

Are all these improvements in technology really helping us communicate? Or are we just becoming more vague?

We text the wrong person or even if we text the right person they don’t understand what we mean.
Our emails are read wrong.
We send things off in an instant instead of really thinking about them.
We post something on someone's facebook wall and don't think of who else might be reading it.
We read things as they were not really intended because we can’t see facial expressions or hear tone of voice.

We have cheapened our communication. We think we are communicating when in fact we are just reminding people we exist and substituting relationships for superficial points of contact.

The K.I.S.S Principle

I was chatting with my friend "hugs" the other day. To be honest, I don't really remember what we were talking about. I think it might have been about a class presentation. But I know that it brought about the K.I.S.S Principle (Keep It Simple Stupid). A teacher of his in high school had first taught him that phrase and it had stuck with him ever sense.

As the conversation proceeded [or I should say wrapped up] this is what happened:
Yeti: We should grab coffee sometime
Hugs: That would be great
Yeti: Did I just ask you out?
Hugs: Naw, you're just making it happen. We'll chat about life and love and beauty and all that matters in the world.
Yeti: Yeah, and we'll KISS. [Yeti turns a shade slightly pinker then she naturally is] Errr….
Hugs: Whatever comes naturally [wink]

Always add PRINCIPLE after the word KISS, it's very important! Or just say the whole phrase…it really doesn’t take that much longer.

Innocent Words?

There are way to many ambiguous words today. Too much for a helpless girl to read into…

Friend: one might not think this one can be confusing. But try this on for size “you are such an amazing friend. Seriously, one of the best.” While he uses the word friend his undertones say L-O-V-E-R

You are so special to me: this SHOULD mean I really want to be with you but I am afraid of messing this up: what it ACTUALLY means is do you think you could hook me up with your roommate?

Sweetheart: this SHOULD mean I want to be dating you: what it ACTUALLY means is thanks for fulfilling my emotional needs.

Hey Babe: this SHOULD mean I wish you were mine: what it ACTUALLY means is I had bacon for breakfast

Miss You: this SHOULD mean I can’t live without you, there is a void in my life: what it ACTUALLY means is I couldn’t think of another tag-line for my email.

I was thinking about you: this SHOULD mean I-want-you-I-need-you-oh-baby-oh-baby: what it ACTUALLY means is I just watched a rerun of I Love Lucy

Call Me: this SHOULD mean I can’t wait to talk to you and want you to feel like you can contact me anytime: what it ACTUALLY means is we ain’t ever going to talk again unless I stop screening my calls.

Lady: this SHOULD mean I really respect you and think you are a fantastic person I could actually see myself having a future with: what it ACTUALLY means is you remind me a lot of my grandmother.

Let’s Hang Out Sometime: this SHOULD mean I really enjoy your company: what it ACTUALLY means is I’ll probably be busy.
