Reality vs. Media

So here is a Monday morning question for you – as I am sure many of you watched movies over the weekend to cool you mind from your many strenuous weekly activities.

Do you think guys hate being cast in roles that depict them as bad at sex? Cause let’s be honest, sometimes girls are bad at separating reality from television and movies…do you think it hurts their game?

I DID watch a movie this weekend, "Made of Honor" - AWFUL. Seriously, one of the worst movies ever. Sucked away hours of my life! But it did not have to do with this. What sparked this was an episode of "Sex and the City"

Don't you think guys are also bad from separating reality from TV/movies? If actors have "game" then I don't think playing any sort of roll will hurt it. Though I imagine some rolls could help it.

Rolls...like belly rolls? :)

I imagine they could care less. At least I would hope so. I would think they are happy to be working!

I remember discussing something similar with a friend and her older sister when I was like 14. I said I would never be on a tampon commercial. My friend's sister said, "Sh*t, I'd do it for $50!"

I think the point is people do anything for a lil pocket change and recognition. But we all have our insecurities!

yeah, i agree with Dodi. I bet they're just grateful to put SATC on their resume. or headshot. or whatever they put that info on.

anyway. remember the friends episode where Joey gets cast in an STD commercial? hee hee

now would anyone do an STD commercial for $50??

Dan, I think you're kind of helping me make my point...girls are always eager to give guys the "other side" of the coin when they play a role that really helps their image - so I was just curious how much it might hurt the other way...

apparently i am kind of the other person that thought about this ;-)

You mean sex is not like the movies? Wait, I know this one. I hope we are all wise enough to avoid playing into the media in this way.

However, it can be ingrained into our subconscious, leaving us striving for the rarely unattainable fantasy. But I feel that this is a two-sided coin. Media also tries to tell us what attractive looks like, some will be deceived. But I know that ribs and toothpick legs are not what I'm looking for.

Yes, men are portrayed as poor sex partners. But are women not commonly portrayed as rarely sexually satisfied? If there is stock in that response, maybe there is truth to the stereotype.
